C. Linn Smith, 91, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Missouri Veteran's Home. He was born March 31, 1907, in Sikeston, to the late Charles and Hazel Norred Smith Jr. He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1926. He was in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. C. Linn Smith, 91, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Missouri Veteran's Home.

He was born March 31, 1907, in Sikeston, to the late Charles and Hazel Norred Smith Jr.

He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1926. He was in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kennett and in Sikeston since 1919.

He was employed as sales representative for General Foods Corp. for 26 years in Sikeston. He bought the Shell Oil Jobbership in Kennett in 1963, which he operated until retiring in 1973. While in Kennett, he was a member of Rotary Club for 10 years, serving as secretary-treasurer, vice president and president. Since retiring, he had served on the board of directors of the Sikeston Rescue Mission, 21 years on the Senior Citizens' Nutrition Board, Wendell Apartments board, and Senior Citizens' Bus Committee.

He had raised English bulldogs and formerly served as president of the Southeast Missouri Kennel Club.

On Dec. 25, 1936, he married Birdie Stubblefield. She died Feb. 3, 1994. Survivors include a nephew, Bill Kindred of St. Mary's, Ga.; three nieces, Ginny Greer of Daytona Beach, Fla., Virginia Lewis of Cape Girardeau and Bettie Deason of Benton; a sister-in-law, Blanche Stubblefield of Sikeston; and three cousins, Richard Reid of Blytheville, Ark., Jere Reid of Memphis, Tenn., and Maxine Rector of O'Keene, Okla.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Davis of First United Methodist Church of Sikeston officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to Sikeston Senior Citizens' Nutrition Center, 305 Cresap, Sikeston, Mo., 63801, or First United Methodist Church, PO Box 682, Sikeston, Mo., 63801.
