JACKSON -- Wilbur "Wib" Bangert, 74, of Jackson died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 20, 1924, at Lixville, son of William and Myrtle Blaylock Bangert. He and Lavern Meyer were married July 5, 1946, in Osceola, Ark.

Bangert had owned Bangert Tractor Sales in Jackson since 1972. Prior to that he owned and operated Bangert Service Center in Jackson from 1956-72.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, VFW Post, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, lifelong member and past president and board member of Kimbeland Country Club.

Bangert was a charter member of Jackson Jaycees, past member of Jackson Rotary and Jackson Optimist clubs, and past auxiliary member of Cape County Sheriff's Patrol. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hancock during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick Bangert of Jackson; a daughter, Peggy Luehrs of Jackson; three sisters, Dorothy Phillips and Sidonia Seabaugh of Jackson, Ruby Stearns of Millersville; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Sunday. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be held at 7.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
