MOUNDS, Ill. -- Harry Edwards Windland, 85, of Glen Carbon died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville.

He was born May 28, 1913, in Mounds, son of Harry Jefferson and Mary Edwards Windland. He and Roberta C. Griffith were married in 1938. She died in 1996.

Windland worked in the construction business and had owned Mounds Supply Co. He moved to Champaign in 1957 and was a carpenter with Ozier Construction. He retired as chief maintenance mechanic at Unit 4 Schools in Champaign.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Champaign, American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, Southern Valley Scottish Rite, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Windland was an electrician's mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Windland of Glen Carbon, Larry Windland of St. Charles; a sister, Marguerite Young of Mounds; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Crain Funeral Home of Ullin is in charge of arrangements.
