IRENE GRIFFIN

CHARLESTON -- Irene Josephine Griffin, 65, of Charleston died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at the Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston.

She was born March 22, 1933, at Napanese, Miss., daughter of Homer McGil and Annie Irene Cassell Porter. She and James Griffin Sr. were married on May 9, 1948.

She was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Medley, where she served on the Mission Board, Mothers Board, Pastor's Aide Committee and the Adult Choir.

Survivors include her husband; seven sons, James Jr., Richard T. and Albert Griffin, all of Charleston, Leroy S. Griffin of Florissant, Donald Griffin of Portageville, Floyd L. Griffin of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Herbert P. Griffin of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Rosetta Bradley and Wonda D. Griffin, both of Charleston, and Donna L. Smith of Sikeston; two brothers, Phil Walker Porter of Pinhook and Walter Howard Porter of Erie, Pa.; four sisters, Minnie Louise Brown of Florissant, Alreather Smith of Barlow, Ky., Vada C. Strayhorn of Pinhook and Mary Louise White of Sikeston; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. The Revs. David Fuller Jr. and Willie Thomas will officiate, with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
