MABEL M. NOWAK

JACKSON -- Mabel M. Nowak, 81, of Jackson died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Heritage Gardens Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Prairie Du Rocher, Ill., daughter of Charles and Mary Auer Kleineberg.

She married Lawrence "Larry" Nowak June 1, 1938. He survives.

The Nowaks moved to Jackson in 1938 from Chester, Ill., and they worked in the former Jackson Hosiery Mill, where Mr. Nowak was plant superintendent for a number of years.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the St. Ann Sodality, WICKS program and was the second president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese.

For the past four years, she lived at Heritage Gardens Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Visitation will be 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, and a Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Msgr. Edward Eftink officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery.
