EDGAR THURMAN

ESSEX -- Edgar Thurman, 71, of Essex died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at Hines VA Medical Center in Hines, Ill.

He was born March 26, 1926, in Tiptonville, Tenn., son of Edgar and Lelia Payton Thurman Sr. He and Lucille Jeris were married Dec. 28, 1945, in Paragould, Ark.

Thurman was a retired machine maintenance worker. He lived in Chicago many years, moving to Essex nine years ago.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Marcia Harris of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; a brother, Leonard "Chuck" Thurman of Jackson; two sisters, Doris Hornbeck of Joplin, Virgie Coleman of Dexter; three grandchildren, including Anthony Dykes who was raised by the Thurmans.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. George Hill officiating. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery.
