SIKESTON -- John Lawrence Ward, 78, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. SIKESTON -- John Lawrence Ward, 78, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Aug. 9, 1918, at Matthews, son of Perry and Dona Myers Ward. His wife Amy preceded him in death.

Ward was a member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post and VFW Post in Sikeston.

Survivors include a son, John Ward of Cardiff, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Ray of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Rosella Hoston of Pekin, Ill., Kathleen Willis of East Prairie; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5-57 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marvin Graham officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
