SALEM, Ill. -- Elma Cozette Bryant, 79, 3312 Nation Road, Salem, Ill., died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, Ill. She was formerly of Morehouse and Sikeston.
Bryant was born July 29, 1917, at Salcedo, daughter of Lester E. and Golda Fansler Newton. She and John H. Bryant were married July 2, 1938 in Morehouse. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1990.
Bryant lived most of her life in the Morehouse area, working in the city collector's office and as a sales clerk for Payne's Grocery Store. Bryant was a member of the Morehouse General Baptist Church but had been attending Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Morehouse.
Survivors include three sons, John Bryant of Sikeston, Ronald Bryant of Lafayette, La., and Glen Bryant of Salem, Ill.; two daughters, Joy Appleton of Sikeston and Judy Cole of Pevely; two brothers, Murrel and Wayne Newton, both of Morehouse; one sister, Ulah Pitts of Morehouse; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two brothers.
Friends may call today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Davis will officiate with burial to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
