HERBERT SCHAPER

JACKSON -- Herbert A. Schaper, 88, of Jackson died March 16, 1997, at Heritage Gardens Nursing Home in Jackson.

He was born Nov. 4, 1908, at Gordonville, the son of Louis H. and Anna H. Brennecke Schaper.

He was an elementary-school teacher in area schools for many years, retiring from the Jackson R-2 School District. He last taught at the Gordonville Attendance Center. He also operated Schapers Nursery for several years, was active in researching area history and genealogy and was known for his woodworking skills.

He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.

He is survived by a sister, Louise Milde of Jackson. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
