CHARLESTON -- Shannon Anthony Mascia, 23, of Charleston died Saturday, March 22, 1997, in Cape Girardeau. He was born Dec. 19, 1973, in Fayetteville, N.C., son of Tony A. and Peggy Lynn Mascia. CHARLESTON -- Shannon Anthony Mascia, 23, of Charleston died Saturday, March 22, 1997, in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 19, 1973, in Fayetteville, N.C., son of Tony A. and Peggy Lynn Mascia.

Mascia was a bartender at Ramada Inn and at J.D.'s Steakhouse in Sikeston. He had been accepted into the Southeast Missouri Police Academy and was to begin classes in May.

He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Mississippi County, and was named Cadet of the Year in Missouri in 1994.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Peggy and Jim Jepsen Sr. of Charleston; a half brother, Jim Jepsen Jr. of Springfield; two half sisters, Stephanie Eisley of Springfield, Andrea O'Donnell of Moundridge, Kan.; maternal grandparents, Ameil and Mary Powell of Sikeston; maternal stepgrandmother, Ruby Lynn of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; paternal stepgrandmother, Dorothy Jepsen of Tracy, Calif.; and his fiancee, Amy Belongy of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his father and paternal stepgrandfather.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Green officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
