SCOTT CITY -- John D. Buttrey, 85, died Saturday, March 29, 1997, at Heritage Gardens in Jackson.

He was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Jonesboro, Ark., son of James L. and Nora Davis Buttrey. On Sept. 4, 1934, he married Beatrice Jenkins in Ware, Ill. She preceded him in death Aug. 11, 1983.

He lived for 70 years in Scott City. He worked many years as a conductor for the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad.

He was a member of the United Transportation Union, Moolah Temple in St. Louis, and the H. O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672. He attained the level of a 32nd Degree Mason.

He is survived by one son, Thomas D. Buttrey of Scott City; four grandchildren, 10 great-children and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. A Masonic service will begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel, the Rev. William Dickey officiating. Burial services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
