MARY L. SMITH

DONGOLA, Ill. -- Mary L. Smith, 73, of Dongola, Ill., died Friday May 30, 1997, at her home.

She was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Dongola, daughter of William and Nellie Powles Phalin. She married Harley E. Smith, who preceded her in death.

She was retired from Knaust Mushroom Plant in Valmeyer.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary L. Shelton of Dongola; a son, Ray W. Smith of New Baden, Ill.; two brothers, Ray and Joe Phalin, both of Dongola; a sister, Lizzie LaCroix of Dongola; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo, Ill. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Quernheim Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beaucoup Cemetery near Nashville, Ill.
