EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Birdie Elizabeth Cooper of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Pastor Fred Girdwood will officiate, with burial in Anniston Cemetery near Anniston.

Friends may call at the chapel after 10:30 a.m.

Cooper, 100, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at East Prairie Nursing Center.

She was born June 7, 1896, in Lexington, Tenn., daughter of J.J. and Lenora Bird Bass. She and George Weldon Cooper were married May 13, 1914, at Anniston. He died July 29, 1973.

Cooper lived in Mississippi County most of her life, and was a member of First Christian Church in East Prairie.

Survivors include three sons, Weldon Cooper of Vincentown, N.J., Archibald Cooper of Anniston, Richard Cooper of Cady, Texas; two daughters, Maudest Peebles of East Prairie, Elnora Vied of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons.
