Cyrus Raymond Martin, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Briarcliff Haven in Atlanta, Ga. He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Oak Ridge, son of Ira and Carrie Moore Martin. He and Arleen Williams were married in 1943 at Great Lakes U.S. Naval Base, Ill. He later married Bessie Nealy Jan. 20, 1955, in Reno, Nev. She died June 26, 1995...

Cyrus Raymond Martin, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Briarcliff Haven in Atlanta, Ga.

He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Oak Ridge, son of Ira and Carrie Moore Martin. He and Arleen Williams were married in 1943 at Great Lakes U.S. Naval Base, Ill. He later married Bessie Nealy Jan. 20, 1955, in Reno, Nev. She died June 26, 1995.

Martin served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1959. He moved to Cape Girardeau and was employed by Cape Girardeau Police Department 10 years. He later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He moved to Woodstock, Ga., two weeks ago to live with a daughter.

He was a member of VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Kirk of Woodstock, Diane Oakleaf of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Barbara Rider of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Glenn Martin of Jackson; a sister, Rosalie Probst of Oak Ridge; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. S.S. Borum officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
