MARBLE HILL -- Gerald L. Powers, 65, of Marble Hill and formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Lewis M. and Grace Klasing Powers. On July 24, 1993, he married Mary Peters Schaefer.

He was a retired printer and had owned the SEMO Printing Company in Jackson for many years.

He belonged to St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Phyllis Poiter of DuQuoin, Ill., Sandra Livesay of Grayville, Ill., and Janette Powers and Patricia Harp, both of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, David E. Schaefer of Marble Hill; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Daniels of Denver; a brother, Michael Powers of Sikeston; two sisters, Regina Hoffmeister of Spring, Texas, and Anita Pate of Diana, Texas; and six grandchildren.

One son preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. A parish prayer and a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold with the Revs. David Corrigan and Michael Casteel officiating. Burial and graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, Ill.
