Thurmond, 96, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at her home.

She was born Dec. 8, 1900, daughter of Paul B. and Margaret Stephens Moore.

Survivors include a daughter, Joella Thurmond of Cape Girardeau; a son, James Thurmond of Charleston; a sister, Joella Moore of the home; and two grandchildren.
