ADVANCE -- Funeral service for Virginia J. Nichols of Granite City, Ill., was held Tuesday at Werner Chapel in Pontoon Beach, Ill. The Rev. Fred Boatright officiated, with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Nichols, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Granite City.

She was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Advance, daughter of Herman and Edna Hitt Weissenborn. She and Eugene Nichols were married in 1938.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Gary Nichols of Glen Carbon, Ill.; a daughter, Barbara Burgess of Granite City; a sister, Shirley Tillman of Granite City; three brothers, Raymond Weissenborn of Washington, D.C., Herman Weissenborn of Granite City, Ben Weissenborn of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
