JACK BRASHEARS

CHARLESTON -- Jack Brashears, 64, of Charleston died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Charleston, son of William and Ruby Hurley Brashears. He and Peggy Jean Grubbs were married March 24, 1988. She died Sept. 13, 1990.

Brashears was manager of IGA Grocery, retiring in 1988. He attended the Nazarene Church, and was a member of Charleston VFW Post 4294. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include three sons, Greg Brashears of Charleston, Mark Brashears of Great Falls, Mont., Michael Brashears of St. Louis; three daughters, Cathy Hendrix of Spring, Texas, Donna Brashears of Sikeston, Lara Weston of Okmulgee, Okla.; two brothers, Billy Brashears of Charleston, and Charlie Brashears of Sikeston.

Also surviving are eight sisters, Rosie Brashears and Sue Rettig of Arnold, Paula Brashears, address unknown, Linda Clayton of Mason City, Ill., Melba Groves of Calvert City, Ky., Retta Thompson of Pekin, Ill., Lucille Hayden of St. Louis, Ivilene Bamper of LaPuente, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in Charleston after 1 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Summers officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Cemetery, with military rites by Brown-Twitty American Legion Post in New Madrid.
