TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- Irene E. Hargis, 79, of Titusville, formerly of Peoria, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Marnier Health Care Center in Titusville.

She was born July 24, 1918, in Gorham, Ill., daughter of Elmer E. and Lena O. Welchel Stamp.

She was a member of the Baptist faith and a housewife.

She is survived a sister, Frances Russell of Titusville; two brothers, Homer Stamp of Scott City and Bill Stamp of Grand Prairie, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolen Neil Hargis, on Nov. 27, 1984, and by four brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Thebes, Ill.
