BENTON -- Ralph Andrew Scherer, 72, Benton Route 1, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at his home. He was born April 28, 1925, at Benton, son of Victor and Pauline Welter Scherer. He and Ann C. Vetter were married May 20, 1953, at New Hamburg. Scherer farmed and was a salesman with MoorMan's Manufacturing 22 years, retiring in 1988...

BENTON -- Ralph Andrew Scherer, 72, Benton Route 1, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at his home.

He was born April 28, 1925, at Benton, son of Victor and Pauline Welter Scherer. He and Ann C. Vetter were married May 20, 1953, at New Hamburg.

Scherer farmed and was a salesman with MoorMan's Manufacturing 22 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church and its Men's Sodality, Knights of Columbus Council 4311 at Oran, Benton Chamber of Commerce, and former member of American Legion in Benton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bruce Scherer of Benton, Roy Scherer of Springfield, Neal Scherer of Evansville, Ind.; two daughters, Donna Niederkorn of Belleville, Ill., Cathy Ekins of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Jerome Scherer of Cape Girardeau, Gregory Scherer of Benton; three sisters, Mary Ann Scheffer and Geneva Dirnberger of Benton, Wilma Martin of Advance; and four granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton after 4 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7, and KC prayers at 7:15.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Church, with the Rev. James Seyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
