GRASSY -- Melvin E. Barks, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1996, at his home.

He was born Nov. 5, 1917, at Whitewater, son of William D. and Icy M. Brown Barks. He and Pauline Roberts were married Aug. 11, 1945.

Barks was a member of the General Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife; a son, Lynn Barks of Grassy; a daughter, Shirlene Schafer of Cape Girardeau, a brother; a sister; and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gene Robbins will officiate, with burial in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.
