Funeral service for Burton P. Loomis of St. Louis will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Charles B. Dreyer will officiate, with burial in Lorimier Cemetery.

Friends may call Saturday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to service time.

Loomis, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Cobden, Ill., son of Rufus and Mary Short Loomis. He and Ethel "Peggy" Cochran were married March 29, 1939, at Jackson.

Loomis began Loomis Brothers Equipment Co. in Anna, and then moved to St. Louis in 1957. He served with General Patton in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Loomis of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Vicki Loomis of St. Louis; a brother, Charles Loomis of St. Louis, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
