FRANK ADAMS

Charles Franklin Adams, 64, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born June 21, 1931, in Roanoke, Ala., son of Joseph Franklin and Lillian Gladys Hill Adams. He and Phyllis Walters were married Nov. 22, 1957, in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Adams worked at Jaymar-Ruby in Anniston, Ala., from 1957-67. He transferred to Chaffee in 1967 to the C&R Clothing Manufacturing Plant that was purchased by Hart, Schaffner and Marx. It was renamed Thorngate Ltd., a division of Hartmarx Corp. The Cape Girardeau plant was established in 1973.

Adams was vice president and general manager of the Southern division of Hart, Schaffner and Marx Corp., and general manager of six plants in the Hartmarx Corp. He received the Golden Needle Award in 1985 for outstanding achievement.

He was a member of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. He attended and played football at Jacksonville State University, and attended Texas A&M. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served 16 years in the Alabama National Guard. He served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Fred Adams of Sacramento, Calif., and a sister, Betty Ziglar of Roanoke.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at the chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, with Chaplain Arthur Kelley officiating.

Entombment will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Forrest Lawn Gardens Mausoleum in Anniston, with William Kughn officiating. Military rites will be conducted by a detachment from Fort McClellan Army Base.
