Raymond F. Cole, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 15, 1996, at his home.

He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Chicago, Ill.

Cole had been a security officer at Anna State Hospital and director of Union County Civil Defense in the 1960s. He designed the Emergency Operating Center in Jonesboro, Ill.

He has operated Ray's Mobile Home Service since 1970. He and his wife also managed two mobile home parks and a motel. He was author of "The Challenging Crystal Set" and "Successful Quake Risk Prediction," and invented a tornado warning alarm. Cole attended the Church of the Nazarene in Jackson. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Raymond Cole of Norwood, Ralph Cole of Jonesboro; a daughter, Naomi Cole of Campbelltown, Pa.; two stepsons, Shannon Novak of Cape Girardeau, David Novak of Brigham City, Utah; a brother, Frank Cole, missionary in Japan; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Salvation Army Church.
