CHESTER, Ill. -- John C. Hobeck, 64, of Chester died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Chester. He was born June 17, 1932, in St. Louis to Myrtle Morris Hobeck and the late Troy J. Hobeck Sr. He married Lavern Slinkard on June 27, 1953, in Jackson. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. CHESTER, Ill. -- John C. Hobeck, 64, of Chester died Friday at Memorial Hospital in Chester.

He was born June 17, 1932, in St. Louis to Myrtle Morris Hobeck and the late Troy J. Hobeck Sr.

He married Lavern Slinkard on June 27, 1953, in Jackson.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a bookbinder for Sparta Printing.

Hobeck is survived by his wife; his mother of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Michael of Manila, Ark., and Andrew of Chester; a daughter, Terry Chiles of Chester; two brothers, Carl of Chester and Larry of Sparta; four sisters, Lois Edwards and Annadean Turnbough, both of Jackson, Jackie Moore of Cape Girardeau and Delores Norman of East Moline, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. until the time of service at Schroeder-McClure Funeral Chapel in Chester. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at Schroeder-McClure, with the Rev. Bradley Crites officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery in Daisy.
