CHARLESTON -- John B. Stanfield, 88, of Charleston, died Monday, June 24, 1996, at the Charleston Manor.

He was born July 2, 1907, in Obion County, Tenn., son of John and Margaret Smith Stanfield.

He lived in Charleston most of his life and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He purchased Ogilvie-Bondurant Drug Store in 1948 but changed the name to Stanfield's Drug Store. He operated the store until his retirement in 1970. In 1973, he moved to Bardwell, Ky., and returned to Missouri in 1993.

Survivors include a son, John Thomas Stanfield of Providence, R.I.; a daughter, Charlotte Stanfield of Charleston; a brother, Hubert Stanfield of Jackson, Tenn.; a sister, Polly Green of Paducah, Ky.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two special friends, Evelyn Yates of Bardwell, Ky., and Mary Jean Lummis of Paducah, Ky.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Rick White officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Bardwell, Ky.
