MCCLURE, Ill. -- David Bennette Brown, 81, of McClure died Saturday, July 6, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 27, 1914, in McClure, the son of Bennette J. and Clara May Harden Brown. He married Gladys Riston on Feb. 10, 1942, in Jackson.

Brown grew up in McClure, where he owned Brown Trucking Co. before its sale in 1943. He then engaged in farming before moving to Chicago in 1955 to work in the trucking industry. In 1970, he returned to McClure.

Brown served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1937-1938 and was in the U.S. Reserves until World War II. He was a member of the Reynoldsville Missionary Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World and Sons of the American Revolution. He was a former trustee of the East Cape Girardeau Grade School.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dee Dee Wilson of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, brother and sister.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Burial will follow in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
