EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Russell DeLay of Marseilles, Ill., will be held at 1 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. The Rev. David Dowdy will officiate. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites by Brown-Twitty Legion Post of New Madrid.
DeLay, 76, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 1996, at LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa, Ill., following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Advance, son of Charlie and Osa Pender DeLay. He and Audrey Jenkins were married Oct. 26, 1968.
DeLay was formerly of East Prairie. He moved to Marseilles from St. Charles in 1990. He retired from Hussman Refrigeration. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Peggy Krominga of Pontiac, Ill.; a stepson, Robert Jason of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; four stepdaughters, Donna Stockstill of Danvers, Ill., Brenda Smith of Arlington, Ky., Lori Christian of East Prairie, Lisa Crowley of Charleston; two brothers, Burford DeLay of Advance, Ralph DeLay of Bloomfield; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
