Funeral service for Charles Freeman Holifield, 120 N. Sunset, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Luther Rhodes will officiate, with burial in Lorimier Cemetery.

Friends may call at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Holifield, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 18, 1931, in Sikeston, son of H.M. and Nora A. Scott Holifield. He and Frances M. Slack were married Oct. 27, 1962, in Illinois.

Holifield moved to Cape Girardeau in 1955. He was a machine operator at Bunny Bread 19 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was missing in action for 142 days. He received two Bronze Stars, a Distinguished Service Cross, Korean Medal Silver Star, Good Conduct and Victory medals.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Norman Moore of Sedgewickville, Charles Holifield of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Theresa Jackson and Marchelle Webb of Cape Girardeau, Anjeanette Crader of Jackson; four sisters, Libbie Dillon, Violet Tidwell, Reba Ryan, all of Sikeston, Vera Keller of Chicago; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
