Alvin Gabriel "Bud" Haas, 77, 2122 Sara, died Friday, Aug. 16, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born June 24, 1919, in Cape Girardeau, son of Alvin A. and Elma A. Vandeven Haas. He and Betty Bauer were married June 19, 1943, in St. Louis.

Haas attended Notre Dame High School, Southeast Missouri State University, graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1942, and attended the U.S. Naval Academy.

He worked at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pa. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1947, and then to St. Louis in 1960. He worked at LaClede Steel in St. Louis and with Fru Con Construction in Clinton, Ill. He retired in 1988 and moved back to Cape Girardeau.

Haas was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark Haas of Cedar Hill, Dr. Chris Haas of Kansas City; a daughter, Patricia Lessmann of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Kenneth and John Haas of Cape Girardeau, Harold Haas of Kelso; two sisters, Lucille Christoff of Cape Girardeau, Joan Lane of Festus; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-7 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew Church, with the Rev. Louis Launhardt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
