SIKESTON -- Aquilla Marion "Jack" Grimes, 82, of Sikeston, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston.

He was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Morehouse, son of Luther and Cora Vaughn Grimes. He first married Edith Winstead in Pinehill. When she preceded him in death, he married Mary Elizabeth Smith in Benton.

Grimes served in World War II in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. For 41 years he was the general manager of Webb-DeCota Electrical Supply in Sikeston.

He was a graduate of Morehouse High School and attended the University of Missouri in St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin and Southeast Missouri State University. He taught adult high school, vocational and electrical classes in Sikeston and Cape Girardeau.

He was a member and past president of the SEMO Shrine Club. He was a member of the Moolah Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite-St. Louis.

He was a 5-year member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310 and a member of the Sikeston Order of the Eastern Star 137 and was past patron. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aries 3319 and a guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel 137 at Sikeston for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Edna Le Walton of Chaffee and Phyllis Zilafro of Sikeston; a stepson, Joe F. Smith of Dumas, Ark.; two grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, step-son, brother and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where there will be a 7:30 Masonic service.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate, assisted by Ted Walon. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
