CAIRO, Ill. -- Paul Lindsey Winders, 79, of Cairo died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Marion. He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Caruthersville, Mo., son of Lawrence and Maggie Tate Winders. He was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church, was an army veteran of World War II and was a retired self-employed service station operator. CAIRO, Ill. -- Paul Lindsey Winders, 79, of Cairo died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1996, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Caruthersville, Mo., son of Lawrence and Maggie Tate Winders. He was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church, was an army veteran of World War II and was a retired self-employed service station operator. He owned the Winders Service Station in Cairo for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Johnson Winders of Cairo; a daughter, Paula Lupo of Rome, Ga.; a son, Larry Winders of Cairo; a sister, Zella Howard of Waco, Texas; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge.

Graveside funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the National Cemetery in Mound City, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Full military honors will follow by the members of the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna. Burial will follow.
