GRAY RIDGE -- James E. "Jay" Mayo, 75, of Gray Ridge died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 10, 1921, in Gray Ridge, son of Thurman and Pearl A. Green Mayo. He and Harriett Magee were married Dec. 10, 1977, in Dearborn, Mich.

Mayo was employed several years at General Motors in Michigan. He was a member of Wappapello VFW, Sikeston American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Dexter Eagles and Dexter Elks. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Jack Magee of Oxford, Mich., R.W. Magee of Marquette, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Audrey Vasher of Lexington, Ky., Edith Barringer of Rapid City, S.D.; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery near Idalia.
