SCOTT CITY -- Verda Faye Stogsdill, 63, of Scott City died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at her home.

She was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Granite City, Ill., daughter of Charles Hamilton and Katharine Hasty Ryan. She and James R. Stogsdill Sr. were married July 10, 1964, in Granite City.

Stogsdill had worked at Melbourne Manufacturing in St. Louis, and had been a waitress in Granite City. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, a CB Radio Emergency Club in the Granite City area, and had been a volunteer with American Cancer Society.

She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1990 from Granite City, and then to Scott City in 1992.

Survivors include her husband; a son, James Stogsdill Jr. of Granite City; five daughters, Jackie Kelley of Bragg City, Betty Rainey and Sandy Gaudreault of Granite City, Kathy Sexton of White Oak, Texas, Leah Stogsdill of Dexter; two brothers, Donald Ryan of Granite City, Bobby Ryan of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Mary Allen and Juanita Buckingham of Edwardsville, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at the chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Revs. J.R. Stogsdill and Leland Holland officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
