JACKSON -- Perry H. Grindstaff, 76, of Jackson died Friday, Sept. 20, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 16, 1920, son of Frank and Ida Fellows Grindstaff at Alliance. He married Marjorie Birk on Nov. 22, 1947.

Grindstaff was co-owner of McCombs Funeral Home and the former McCombs Furniture Co. in Jackson. He joined the company in 1940 and retired in January 1988.

He served in the Army during World War II, where he attained many medals, including three Bronze Stars. He helped organize the Jackson National Guard Co. E 140th Infantry and served in it. He retired with 20 years combined service.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 158. He received a National Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Commission Citation in 1991.

He was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bradley Grindstaff of Osaka, Japan; a daughter, Brenda Sue Grindstaff Ferst of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, Loy Grindstaff of Festus; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at 3:30 p.m. today at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. There will be an honor guard ceremony at 7:30 at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate with burial to follow at Russell Heights Cemetery.
