Funeral service for Kenneth Abbott Verhines of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Dr. Neal O. Zeilinger will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Verhines, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born April 1, 1922, in Johnson County, Ill., son of Ray Audy and Gladys Abbott Verhines. He and LaWanda Kimmich were married June 6, 1942, in Cape Girardeau.

Verhines was a graduate of Central High School. He served in the Strategic Air Command of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, receiving American Theater Ribbons, Good Conduct and Victory Medals.

He was employed by Singer in Cape Girardeau 35 years, having been manager and district manager for Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, Southeast and Southwest Missouri. He was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, and a 32nd Degree Mason in St. Mark Lodge 93.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kent and Brad Verhines of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Jane Davie of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
