JACKSON -- George Arthur "Skin" Hellwig, 78, of Jackson died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in St. Louis County, the son of Henry and Mary Heuser Hellwig. On June 28, 1941, in St. Louis, he married Verna Hussman.
Hellwig was a vegetable grower and packer in Chesterfield. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellisville, where he held many offices and chaired the building committee. He served nine years on the evangelism board for his district of the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church.
Before his death, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy Statler of Jackson; one son, Gary Hellwig of Lake Hauasu City, Ariz.; one brother, Walter Hellwig of Chesterfield; one sister, Martha Weyman of Fulton; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be private with McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Ellisville.
