SIKESTON -- O. Glenn Childers, 79, of Sikeston died Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1917, in Cache, Ill., son of Orville and Eugenia Siers Childers. He was raised by his grandparents, Walter and Eliza Flowers Childers. He and Molene Hagler were married June 26, 1937, at Charleston.

Childers worked at McKnight-Keaton Wholesale Grocery Co. in Cairo, Ill., three years, transferring to Sikeston in 1939 where he was a salesman 32 years. He owned and operated Childers Grocery Store at Bell City for 11 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and its Agoga Sunday School Class, and had served as a deacon.

Childers served in Patton's Third Army during World War II, and received Bronze Stars, Bronze Medal, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenna Swilley of Sikeston; two sons, Dean Childers of Coconut Creek, Fla., David Childers of Oran; two sisters, Jewel Morgan of Cairo, Geraldine Gibson of Sarasota, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dolan Rogers and Billie Fair officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Morley.
