SIKESTON -- Funeral service for John Albert Burns of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Ledbetter will officiate, with burial in Essex Cemetery at Essex.
Burns, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, at Sikeston Health Care Center.
He was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Lobelville, Tenn., son of Bob and Nettie Tally Burns. He married Myrtle Lorene Tyson, who died in May 1964.
Burns had been a heavy equipment operator with Potashnick Construction Co. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include four sons, John Burns of Bakersfield, Calif., Alfred Burns of Scotts Hill, Tenn., Gary Burns of Perkins, Michael Burns of Decaturville, Tenn.; two sisters, Charlene Nolley of Kokomo, Ind., Jewell Griffin of Bloomfield; a friend, Betty Kestner of Morehouse; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and his stepmother.
