Emily Bertha Green, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services. She was born March 2, 1917, in Lodi, Ohio, the daughter of Tekoa Shirk and Emily Bertha Shaw Winey. She married Charles Lloyd Green on April 21, 1935, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1971...

Emily Bertha Green, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services.

She was born March 2, 1917, in Lodi, Ohio, the daughter of Tekoa Shirk and Emily Bertha Shaw Winey. She married Charles Lloyd Green on April 21, 1935, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1971.

She had a weekly poetry column in the Chaffee Signal for many years. She also helped raise money for disabled children by visiting area schools as Kousin Kornella and playing novelty instruments. She was past president and past treasurer of the Chaffee B.P.W., a member of the Chaffee V.F.W. Auxiliary and a member of the Chaffee American Legion Auxiliary.

Green worked as a licensed practical nurse from 1959-1986 at the Chaffee Clinic for Dr. W.H. Wehmeyer.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Green of Greenbrier and John Green of Glen Allen; one sister, Irwinna Byers of Port Angelos, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. James Johns officiating. Burial will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Cemetery near Marble Hill.
