TAMMS, Ill. -- Chester Abercrombie, 94, of Tamms died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Tamms.

He was born Oct. 26, 1902, near McClure to John and Anata Harvell Abercrombie.

On Sept. 21, 1921, he married Cecyl Miles, who died May 31, 1961. He married Vertie Warren Newell Sept. 15, 1962.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tamms.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Merle Abercrombie of Red Bud and J.L. Abercrombie and Bob Abercrombie, both of Tamms; two stepdaughters, Myrtle Hawkins of McClure and May Tinsley of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and one stepson, Ralph Newell of Tamms; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms. Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Burial will follow in Anna Cemetery.
