KELSO -- Monroe Jacob Raines, 80, of Kelso died Saturday, April 1, 1995, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Kelso, the son of Frank Riley and Pauline Leible Raines. He married Helen Hess on Sept. 3, 1940, in Kelso.

He was a farmer and also worked from 1966 to 1980 at Compas and Strack in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, the Knights of Columbus 1111 in Cape Girardeau and was a fourth degree knight of the Thomas A. Langley Assembly in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Leonard Raines of Scott City; a daughter, Kathleen Keesee of Scott City; four brothers, Lester Raines, Alfred "Pete" Raines, Joseph Raines and Norman "Shorty" Raines, all of Scott City; three sisters, Vernedia Blattel and Alene Heisserer of Scott City and Bernice Raines of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where parish prayers will be conducted at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery.
