SIKESTON -- James Woodrow "Woody" Lackey, 78, of Sikeston, died Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Iuka, Ark., son of Charlie A. and Myrtle King Lackey Sr.
Lackey was a farmer, and member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114. He had lived in the Sikeston and Matthews area 42 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a prisoner of war 10 months.
Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Lackey of Sikeston, Charlene "Carrie" Johnson of Benton; five brothers, Carl Lackey of Palatka, Fla., Charles Lackey Jr. of Murphysboro, Ill., George Lackey of Flint, Mich., Melvin Lackey of Sikeston, and William Lackey of Zanesville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a stepmother.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with Cline Ables officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie with military graveside rites.
