JONESBORO, Ill. -- Herman Owen "Shady" Walter Jr., 61, of Jonesboro, died Monday, July 24, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born March 18, 1934, in Eldorado, son of Herman and Mollie Fox Walter Sr. He and Doris Jane Mellett were married March 17, 1956, in Robinson.
Walter was retired from General Telephone Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon, director of Baptist Men, a Sunday School teacher and mission board member. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers Association and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, and a son, Larry Walter of Anna.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 6 p.m. today, and at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Burial will be in Big Ridge Cemetery near Harrisburg.
