CAIRO, Ill. -- Bernice V. Oliver, 65, of Cairo, died Monday, July 31, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 16, 1930, in Holly Springs, Miss., daughter of Lawrence and Lottie Tucker. She and the Rev. Sylvester Oliver Sr. were married in 1943.

The Olivers moved to Cairo in 1974 from Memphis, Tenn., where he pastored First Missionary Baptist Church.

She received degrees in theology, nursing and cosmetology.

Oliver was president of the Senior Choir and Union Church Aid Society, a Sunday School teacher, member of Missionary Society, Zion District Association, Congress of Christian Education of Southern Illinois Inc., and was a delegate in the Illinois State and National Baptist Conventions.

Survivors include two sons, Sylvester Oliver Jr. of Holly Springs, Anthony Oliver of Memphis; 11 daughters, Betty Settles and Loretta Love of Memphis, Martha Leggett of Hattiesburg, Miss., Vivian Oliver of Los Angeles, Faye Alexander, Paula Bondurant and Angela Oliver of Cairo, Helen Merriweather and Michelle Mitchell of Decatur, Deloris Oliver of Pasadena, Calif., Joetta Cryer of Biloxi, Miss.; 30 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at First Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.M. Brooks officiating. Burial will be Friday at Cotrell Cemetery in Holly Springs.

Friends may call at the church after 11 a.m.

Algee Memorial Chapel of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
