ANNA, Ill. -- Raymond D. Cates Jr., 69, of Anna died Friday, Aug. 4, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Anna, son of Raymond D. and Clara Ann Houseman Cates.

He married Shirley J. Boyd Dec. 9, 1944, in Anna. She preceded him in death July 23, 1989.

A brother and a sister also preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Petersmeyer of Delphos, Ohio, and Melissa McIntosh of Anna; two brothers, Billy E. Cates of Anna and Darrell D. Cates of Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Joan Trammel of Jonesboro, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro and the Over 50 Sunday School Class at the church. He was president of the board at Sunshine Inn in Anna, a board member of the Senior Adult Services in Carbondale; a board member of the Senior Advisory Council; a board member of the Hospital Home Health Services of Union County Hospital in Anna. He was a charter member and past president of the Union County Sportsmen's Club. He was a retired manager of Associated Lumber Co. in Carbondale.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna or at the First Baptist Church at Jonesboro. after 11 a.m. Monday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, with Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Entombment will be in the Anna Cemetery.
