BERTRAND -- Jewell J. Brown, 79, of Bertrand, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Wyatt, son of John Joseph and Mary Bell Goode Brown. He and Gladys V. Miller were married in 1940.

Brown lived in Brawley, Calif., 29 years and worked at Growers Gin Co. He retired in 1985 and returned to Bertrand. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Wyatt.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judith Lunceford of Brawley; two stepsons, Marshall Vowels of Dexter, George Vowels of Butler; five brothers, Edward and Floyd Brown of Wyatt, Clifford and Estel Brown of Brawley, Orval Brown of Hardin, Ky.; two sisters, Mary Todd of Wyatt, Dorothy Griggs of Brawley; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Kohlbaker officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
