SCOTT CITY -- Herbert Russell Smith, 67, of Scott City, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 1994, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. SCOTT CITY -- Herbert Russell Smith, 67, of Scott City, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 1994, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Jan. 13, 1927, at Illmo, son of John Henry and Mary Elizabeth Lynn Smith. He first married Frances Jean Kent Dec. 25, 1945. She died Aug. 2, 1990. He later married Mary Ann Wachter Weisenborn May 18, 1991, at Scott City.

Smith served 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as sergeant first class. He then was an electrical guidance counselor with Martin Marietta Army Contracting for 18 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church here, and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Russell Smith of Scott City; two stepsons, Keith Weisenborn of Scott City, Kevin Weisenborn of St. Louis; five brothers, Lloyd, John, Franklin, Thomas and James Smith of Scott City; two sisters, Adie Russom of Scott City, Mary Davis of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, and a stepgrandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God Church in Scott City. The Revs. Randy Morse and Larie Burdine will officiate. Burial will be Sunday in Lightner Cemetery, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 3838.

Friends may call Sunday at the church from 2 p.m. to service time.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Home at Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
