Memorial service for Arthur Lee Gerhardt of Long Beach, Calif., was held Dec. 29 at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Long Beach.

Gerhardt, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1993, at Palm Crest North Convalescent Home in Long Beach.

He was born May 22, 1915, in Cape Girardeau, son of Arthur and Viva Marie Conrad Gerhardt. He and the former Jeanne Helps were married Dec. 12, 1946.

While in Cape Girardeau he worked with his father and a brother, Howard, in construction. Some of their work included the first segment of Southeast Missouri Hospital, the former Montgomery Ward building, May Green School, Houck Field House, Marquette Hotel, and the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tenn.

The Gerhardts had lived in Los Angeles County 47 years, where he continued as a building contractor with his father.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David Gerhardt of Torrance, Calif.; two daughters, Karen Pearson of Cambria, Calif., Kathleen Grubbs of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Viva Gerhardt, a sister, Sue Gerhardt, both of Long Beach; a brother, Howard Gerhardt of Parris, Calif., and three grandchildren.
