SCOTT CITY -- John William Hockersmith, 85, of Scott City, died Tuesday, May 17, 1994, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1909, in Lynchburg, Tenn., son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Alice Edgman Hockersmith. He and Esther Lorentz were married Nov. 5, 1938, at Charleston.

Hockersmith had worked for the Corps of Engineers and city of Scott City.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Roy Hockersmith of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Irene Phipps, Allene Ellinger and Evelyeene DeRousse of Scott City, Dorothy Wasson of East Prairie, and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home here after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. Bill Dickey and Rennie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
